Preparing to Bring Your Puppy Home...You should have:- A Kennel Kennel/crate training is an absolute staple in a well-adjusted, obedient puppy's training! If you plan to get a large kennel, you should purchase a divider to use until your puppy is a bit bigger! - A Leash and Collar Also, be nice and make sure you have potty bags. ;) - A Training Plan Be sure you know exactly what you will and will not allow your new puppy to do in your home. Changing your training plan after he/she arrives home will be confusing for your puppy. - A Scheduled Vet Visit ** Your puppy will need to see your vet within 1 week of pickup in order to be eligible for our health guarantee. Until this point, he/she has always been surrounded by litter mates, and this a new stage. Your puppy will need LOTS of love and attention for the first month (or more) of being in their forever home. From 7 weeks old till about a year old your puppy will be making their forever connections. Be sure that you use this time to bond with your baby! Also, please be sure that even as you love, cuddle and adore your new baby, you do enforce your training plan. Allowing your puppy to eat off the table, or jump up on a visitor is NOT acceptable at any point, whether or not they are just beginning to adjust. Firm, loving instruction will be your most effective tool of training. Your new goldendoodle puppy will probably have a hard time sleeping through the night for about 1-2 weeks. We suggest placing a blanket over his/her kennel when you would like them to sleep. Placing a stuffed animal in their kennel can help them feel like they're surrounded by litter-mates, too! (Make SURE the stuffed animal is sturdy and can resist puppy-level chewing without falling apart!!) If it is not time to sleep, and he/she is simply resting in the kennel, do not put the blanket over the kennel. Your puppy will learn that when the blanket is over, it is time to sleep - no more barking, scratching or whining.
